My small group tonight mentioned a word that softly struck my heart: surrender. I've heard many people say "let it go, let him go, let them go...". But for some reason the word surrender came to me as a comfort. Different things strike different people differently!
Letting go seems a little more harsh, a little more permanent. I have often wondered how hope and letting go work together, as they seem like opposites. I think that clarity has finally come tonight.
Surrender is a combination of hope and letting go. I give my all to Jesus. All the worry, all the dreams, all the exhaustion....and the fact that I am now divorced. I haven't accepted that yet. But now, I can give all this to Jesus, stop trying to figure it all out, and let Him work it all out, in His time, in His plan. I surrender everything to Jesus (let go), and lay my hope in His power and His plan. And then, rest. After an exhausting few weeks of spiritual battles, internal battles and a major meltdown today, I am finally at rest, surrendering to Him. Now we'll see how He works.
It reminded me of a wonderful hymn. If you know it, don't just glance over the words, I would challenge you to meditate on them and ask the Holy Spirit to show you a new truth from these words:
I Surrender All
All to Jesus I surrender
All to Him I freely give;
I will ever love and trust Him,
In His presence daily live.
All to Jesus I surrender
Humbly at His feet I bow,
Worldly pleasures all forsaken,
Take me, Jesus, take me now.
All to Jesus I surrender,
make me, Savior, wholly Thine;
Let me feel the Holy Spirit,
Truly know that Thou art mine.
All to Jesus I surrender,
Lord, I give myself to Thee;
Fill me with Thy love and power,
Let Thy blessing fall on me.
Refrain:
I surrender all,
I surrender all.
All to Thee, my blessed Savior,
I surrender all.
